Description

Fire Prevention

Provides protection against loss of life and property by fire through code enforcement; public education; systematic fire inspections of campus residential & academic buildings, assemblies, and businesses.

Emergency Medical Services

Staffed exclusively by student volunteers, the emergency medical services branch of the College of Charleston Fire and EMS responds to medical emergencies in and around the College of Charleston Campus. All services of the College of Charleston EMS are provided at no cost to our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Fire and EMS is certified as an Ambulance Service by SC DHEC and is authorized to provide care up to the intermediate level. Advanced life support services are provided by Charleston County EMS.

Affiliated with fire and emergency medical services since 1985, Chief Krantz directs and supervises all activities of the College of Charleston Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and provides for coordination and implementation of College of Charleston Emergency Management.

He also serves as the department Public Information and Privacy Officer and has been with the College of Charleston Fire and EMS since 2006.

Affiliated with fire and emergency medical services since 2003, Lt. Samuelson is responsible for performing professional level work in planning, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the delivery of emergency medical care and ensuring compliance with local and state regulation and guidelines. Lt. Samuelson has served with the College of Charleston Fire and EMS since 2004.

Lt. Samuelson also serves as the CPR/AED Training Coordinator, and is responsible for organizing all American Heart Association BLS and Heartsaver courses for the College of Charleston Fire & EMS. Additional responsibilities include the maintenance of instructor and class records as well as the distribution of certification credentials.

The In-Service Training Officer is responsible for assuring compliance with SC DHEC IST program requirements and submission of all IST and re-certification paperwork to DHEC.

In conjunction with the Chief of Fire and EMS, the Director of Emergency Medical Services is the ultimate authority of all aspects of the College of Charleston Emergency Medical Service. Responsibilities of the Director include interagency agreements and communication, coordination of medical control, mutual aid procedures, and the coordination and direction of staff officers.

Col. Logan Herbert is currently serving as the Director of Emergency Medical Services for the the College of Charleston Fire and EMS. He is a Senior in his third year with the unit. Col. Herbert is a chemistry major.

The chief of operations is responsible for the daily operations of the College of Charleston EMS. Responsibilities of the chief of operations include coordination of weekly schedules, ensuring proper operation and maintenance of equipment and vehicles, inventory of supplies, and ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations. 

Maj. Lisa Petruncio is currently serving as the Chief of Operations for the College of Charleston EMS. Maj. Petruncio has been with the College of Charleston EMS since 2011. Maj. Petruncio is a psychology and biology major with a neuroscience minor.
