Description

Fire Prevention

Provides protection against loss of life and property by fire through code enforcement; public education; systematic fire inspections of campus residential & academic buildings, assemblies, and businesses.

Emergency Medical Services

Staffed exclusively by student volunteers, the emergency medical services branch of the College of Charleston Fire and EMS responds to medical emergencies in and around the College of Charleston Campus. All services of the College of Charleston EMS are provided at no cost to our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Fire and EMS is certified as an Ambulance Service by SC DHEC and is authorized to provide care up to the intermediate level. Advanced life support services are provided by Charleston County EMS.

Affiliated with fire and emergency medical services since 1985, Chief Krantz directs and supervises all activities of the College of Charleston Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and provides for coordination and implementation of College of Charleston Emergency Management.

He also serves as the department Public Information and Privacy Officer and has been with the College of Charleston Fire and EMS since 2006.

Affiliated with fire and emergency medical services since 2008, Lt. Bisnett is responsible for performing professional level work in planning, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating the delivery of emergency medical care and ensuring compliance with local and state regulation and guidelines.

The In-Service Training Officer is responsible for assuring compliance with SC DHEC IST program requirements and submission of all IST and re-certification paperwork to DHEC.

In conjunction with the Chief of Fire and EMS, the Director of Emergency Medical Services is the ultimate authority of all aspects of the College of Charleston Emergency Medical Service. Responsibilities of the Director include interagency agreements and communication, coordination of medical control, mutual aid procedures, and the coordination and direction of staff officers.

Capt. Raychel Simpson is currently serving as the Director of Emergency Medical Services for the the College of Charleston Fire and EMS. She is a Senior in her second year with the unit. Captain Simpson is a Biology major.

The Assistant Director of EMS Personnel is responsible for the scheduling and coordination of EMS personnel. Duties of the position include coordination of weekly schedules, maintenace of personnel records and monitoring for compliance with EMS policies and guidelines.

Lt. Kelsey Fervier is currently serving as the Assistant Director of Personnel for the College of Charleston EMS. She is a Senior in her third year with the unit. Lieutenant Fervier is an Anthropology major.
