Fire Response
Fire and Emergency Medical Services responds to over 700 requests for service throughout campus and the City of Charleston each year. Fire suppression response includes not only firefighting by state certified and nationally accredited firefighters, but also includes an aggressive property conservation and customer support program to reduce the impact and dollar loss of a fire. Fire and EMS utilizes full time employees and undergraduate student volunteers to fulfill the Fire and Emergency Medical Services mission objectives.
Fire and EMS participates in the South Carolina and National Fire Incident Reporting System providing real time response data on the nature and causes of fire, civilian and service deaths, and property loss from fires.
Every day Americans experience the horror of fire at work, home, school, and at play. But most people don't understand fire. Only when we know the true nature of fire can we prepare ourselves and our families. Each year more than 4,000 Americans die and more than 25,000 are injured in fires, many of which could be prevented.
